Letter to the Editor: Abuse of power

THE NMC president can boast about the high registration for the Fall semester but her decision not to renew Mr. Sam McPhetres’ contract is damaging to higher education.

It doesn’t add up: a well-known and long-time popular instructor like Mr McPhetres to be pushed out of NMC is really a big blackeye to the college.
Mr. McPhetres has been the public image of NMC for more than 25 years and for the board of trustees to keep quiet and look the other way is an insult to our college.
This is straight up discrimination in the making, not to mention all the qualified instructors who have been let go in previous years.
As a former student, I consider these terminations as an abuse of power in our higher education system. Is the governor going to do something about these bad practices in our NMC? We will see later.
